Why Buhari did not speak on Lekki shootings in nationwide address – Adesina, Dare
NEWSMAN, Abuja- Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina has disclosed why President Muhammadu Buhari did not mention the Lekki toll gate shooting in his nationwide speech addressing the issue of #EndSARS.
Adesina disclosed that his principal did not mention the shooting because it would be “premature and presumptuous.”
He explained this while appearing on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, adding that the shooting was still being investigated by the military.
“The Defence Headquarters issued a statement to say that it was investigating the matter. Lagos State Governor has also set up a probe panel to investigate what really happened. So, the President couldn’t have said anything because it would be premature and presumptuous while investigation is ongoing. It is after investigation has been concluded that he can speak on the matter”, he said.
Similarly, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare while speaking on Arise TV programme said “
“For sure, the President has ordered for an investigation. He had a National Security Meeting yesterday (Friday). I can tell you that this is ongoing already. The President wants to have the facts and that is going to be made public.
“It is going to be difficult to hide all these facts because we live in a multimedia world and we have evidence, collaborations, and all of that, and I think it is important to get the facts right. That is the path that the President has toed and I am sure that when these facts are made available, this President because he has integrity, will level with the Nigerian people about what happened on Tuesday in Lekki.”
Buhari had received criticisms from Nigerians over his silence on the Lekki shooting allegedly carried out by soldiers where at least 30 #EndSARS protesters sustained bullet wounds, according to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
