Igangan: Farmer found dead in cocoa farm

NEWSMAN, Ibadan – A 65-year-old farmer Alfa Sikiru Akinlotan has been found dead on his farm after his cocoa plantation was set ablaze by unknown arsonists.
Confirming the incident, Amotekun Commandant in the state Col. Olayinka Olayanju (Rtd.), said: “Alfa Sikiru Akinlotan from Gbogi Compound, Isale Amao area, Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government died inside his farm at Itigbo, Apodun Road, Igangan, on Wednesday February 10, 2021.
“It happened that his cocoa farm with his cashew farm were set ablaze wherein he met his untimely death while he was trying to quench the fire. He was never attacked by any Fulani or other person.”
His corpse was reportedly found around 5.30pm on Wednesday some 20 metres away from his farm, and was buried on Wednesday night after the incident was reported at the police.
Olayanju said, ” Autopsy would have revealed the cause of his death but his family have since buried him.”
Igangan has been in the news in recent times for rising cases of insecurity by suspected herders.
