Sumner Sambo joins Arise News as Political Editor

NEWSMAN, Abuja – Journalist and media personality, Sumner Shagari Sambo has joined Arise News Television as Political Editor and will be operating from the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Sambo in a statement on his social media pages said he resumed on Monday and thanked the management of the news channel for the opportunity to serve with other creative minds to drive a new narrative in television broadcasting across Nigeria and elsewhere.

“Join me and other creative minds in Arise News as we help to drive a new narrative by delivering quality broadcast journalism based on global standards”, Sambo wrote.

Before joining Arise News, he was a Political Editor/Bureau Chief with News Central Television, a pan-African news channel broadcasting from Lagos, Nigeria. He was also a Senior Correspondent/Deputy Bureau Chief with TVC News, one of Nigeria’s largest TV networks which previously operated a pan-African news channel, TVC News Africa. Prior to that, he was a Stringer with Reuters and a Senior National Correspondent with NN24 TV, Nigeria.

An MSc/BSc Mass Communication graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; he is a technology-savvy and probing mind who also acts as a Fixer for many international news crews coming to Nigeria or West Africa to source for interviews and news stories.

He is a 2018 Fellow of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ). He also won the 2016 Nigeria Investigative Journalist of the Year (TV) award run by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) and was winner of the 2017 Senate Reporter of the Year (TV) award organized by the Senate Press Corps of Nigeria’s National Assembly.

SUMNER SAMBO JOINS ARISE NEWS AS POLITICAL EDITOR

Dear Friends. I was meant to personally announce it here today to you that I had been appointed as Political Editor with Arise News Television (DSTV 416, GOTV 44 and Sky 519) however the station had made the announcement on their Twitter handle yesterday.

I have formally resumed on the job today.

As a result, many called me to inquire if the news is true or not. I hereby confirm it is true and I thank all those who published the news on their social media platforms, blogs and websites.

Glad to join the great team at Arise News. Hoping to join hands with management and team members to make the news channel the preferred home for breaking news, exclusives, political news and programming.

Sumner Shagari Sambo has always been passionate about TV journalism, working especially with start-ups to rejuvenate broadcasting across Nigeria and Africa. He recently joined Arise News Television, one of Africa’s most promising TV channels in a bid to combine his skills with other creative minds to reposition news coverage and programme delivery for premium content consumers in Nigeria and on the continent.

Sumner is a multi-skilled Journalist and multimedia professional. He is a 2018 Fellow of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ). He also had a stint with The Nation Newspaper, one of Nigeria’s widely read and circulated national newspapers as a Production Sub-editor.
