Shocker: Buhari recognises Giadom faction of APC, will attend NEC meeting Thursday
*Pastor Ize-Iyamu candidature hangs in the balance
NEWSMAN, Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday recognised the Victor Giadom-faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in what is seen as a major set back for Adams Oshiomhole and majority of the members of the Abiola Ajimobi led National Working Committee of the party.
President Buhari in a statement through his spokesman Garba Shehu on Thursday said “the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman”, throwing spanners and shivers into the internal runnings of the ruling party.
“In response to enquiry by some State House Correspondents:
“The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman.
“Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon”, the presidency statement said.
“We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter.
“In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly”, Buhari added.
With the recognition of the Giadom faction by President Buhari, many political observers say the latest calculations will affect the viability of the APC primaries held in Edo State on Monday which returned Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu elected as the rightful candidate of the party.
