Reconstitute NHRC Governing Council – Falz Tells Buhari
NEWSMAN, Abuja – Following the series of attacks on unarmed #EndSARS/EndSWAT protesters by unknown armed hired thugs in Lagos and Abuja, popular Nigerian music star, and lawyer Folarin Falana, popularly called Falz, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reconstitute the governing council of the National Human Right’s Commission (NHRC).
The Musician’s demand was contained in an open letter addressed to the president via his verified social media account, where he stated that by reconstituting the governing council of the NHRC, Buhari would prove that he is determined to reform the Nigeria Police.
Falz noted that the Human Rights Commission as stated by the body’s constitution has the right to “receive complaints and investigate all alleged cases of human rights violations in Nigeria and make appropriate recommendations to the President, and that the Commission need not set up another panel for the exercise of its functions.”
He added that the “National Human Rights Commission has remained without the Governing Council since 2015, and still remains without it. The unfortunate circumstance has led to the aggravation of human rights abuse”
