NLC-TUC suspend strike after new deal with FG on electricity, fuel prices

NEWSMAN, Abuja – The Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have suspended the proposed nationwide strike scheduled to begin Monday (today) following a last minute agreement reached with the Federal Government in the early hours, a document with the signatures of the labour leaders has shown.

Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Festus Keyamo in an announcement after sealing the deal with the national leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa said with this development, “strike suspended” by the Labour unions.

The NLC and TUC are yet to formally comment or withdraw their actions though the agreement document containing the signatures of the labour leaders has been circulated by the Federal Government.

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari confirmed the signing of the agreement that led to the suspension of the strike.

“We reached accord to suspend¹ the planned strike action, great responsibility for both Govt and Labour, all serving the common good, beneficial challenge for NNPC, we will follow through diligently”, Kyari said.”

TUC leadership is yet to also comment on the new development despite signing the agreement with the government.
