NCC Revises USSD price to N1.63 per 20 seconds session
NEWSMAN, Abuja – The Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) pricing has now been revised to 20 seconds at N1.63 per session to allow mobile network operators (MNO) and financial institutions negotiate mutually beneficial rates.
The Nigerian Communications Commission through its Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, noted that the cost should form the basis of negotiations between MNOs and other related service providers using USSD channels, PUNCH reported.
The amendment, which took effect on August 1, was in response to the MNOs and financial service provider’s inability to agree on rates. The commission said it would intervene and that it’s decision would be final and binding.
The telecoms regulators said refusal to pay for services provided or to negotiate in good faith would lead to discontinuation of provision of the service, the possible withdrawal of the USSD short code and/ or imposition of regulatory sanctions.
