NAFDAC recovers fake drugs worth over N10m, seals factories
NEWSMAN, Kano – National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed two counterfeit animal drug factories in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State.
State Coordinator of the agency, Shaba Muhammad, disclosed this on Wednesday during a raid conducted by the operatives of the agency.
Muhammad said the raid was necessary after the discovery of a large quantity of the counterfeit animal drugs in circulation at Sabon Gari and other major markets in Kano metropolis.
He revealed that the agency had been trailing the producer of the fake drugs for the past six months, adding that drugs worth over N10 million were recovered, News Agency Of Nigeria reported.
“The factories produced fake animal drugs and injections labelled with fake NAFDAC’s registration numbers to deceive unsuspected members of the public” Muhammad noted.
He added that the agency arrested one suspect, Jamilu Muhammad-Sani, who is the proprietor of the factories who would be prosecuted after investigations had been concluded by NAFDAC.
He urged the public to report suspicious activities and persons engaged in the illicit drugs trade in their communities to the relevant agencies of government to curb the circulation of counterfeit products in the state.
