FG Lifts ban on Football, bars fans

NEWSMAN, Abuja – Federal Government is set to kickstart contact sporting activities including football from October 19, 2020.
National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, during a briefing in Abuja on Thursday said “this is limited to the actual sports itself and not mass gathering.”
“The lifting of restriction on outdoor activities including football is in line with earlier consultations with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC) Aliyu said.
“In this regard, mass gathering including sports events is still restricted as this represent an opportunity for the virus to spread with an increased rate of a second wave”, he added.
Sporting activities have been banned since March this year as part of measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
