‘Fake and worn out tyres cause road accidents in Nigeria’- FRSC
NEWSMAN, Abuja – Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has revealed that fake and worn out vehicle tyres are major causes of road crashes in Nigeria.
Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, on Friday said tyres are essential vehicle component that must not be taken for granted.
“The Corps advises every vehicle owner to patronise only genuine tyres and always ensure that they are in good condition. Most drivers use fake tyres, and refuse to change until they are completely worn out”, Kazeem said.
He warned that such tyres reduce traction which often leads to crashes caused by slippery surfaces during rainy seasons, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
The spokesman added that FRSC, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and National Automobile Design and Development Council (NADDC), were working together to get rid of substandard tyres.
Kazeem predicted that the collaboration and clampdown on dealers will put an end to importation and sale of fake products.
