Civil Defence Officers attack VIO officials in Abuja
NEWSMAN, Abuja – Officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) on Tuesday evening attacked traffic controllers including Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) in Abuja.
The attack which have been strongly condemned by the Federal Capital Terrorist Administration(FCTA) took place along the popular Karu – Nyanya expressway.
A statement by the Chairman of the FCT Traffic Management Team, Ikharo Attah stated that “the attack on the VIO and other traffic controllers occurred about 4.40pm along the Kugbo slope of the expressway where the Civil Defence personnel beat up and sprayed teargas on the traffic officers, injuring them and damaging their official vehicle while threatening to deal with them next time”.
Attah said that the VIO officers were on “Truck timing and Traffic free flow operations” when the NSCDC bus carrying officials came and insisted on taking an unapproved path.
“When they were prevented from breaking the law, they got angry and descended cruelly on the officials of the FCT Department of Road Traffic Services (DRTS)”, the statement read.
