Childbearing: Man gets 30-year jail term for chopping off wife’s hands
NESMAN – A Kenyan man has been sentenced to 30 years in jail for attempted murder after he chopped off his wife’s hands for failing to bear him children after seven years of marriage.
The court in Machakos, Machakos County, jailed Stephen Ngila, 39, for chopping off Jackline Mwende’s hands with a machete on July 25, 2016.
Justice Brenda Bartoo said the court had taken note that the accused was not remorseful for the offence, NAN reported.
Ngila, was given the sentence on Tuesday, February 9, after he was found guilty. He was however granted 14 days to appeal the ruling.
