Buhari directs IG Adamu to reform, tackle SARS after mass protests
NEWSMAN, Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to “address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, & ensure erring personnel are brought to justice”.
Buhari disclosed this in his social media pages following a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the IGP. He says actions would be taken by the government to remedy the brutality by the SARS policemen against Nigerians.
President Buhari said “the IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, & ensure erring personnel are brought to justice. I appeal for patience & calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.”
The President went ahead to say that” the vast majority of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are patriotic and committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, and we will continue to support them to do their job.”
Many Nigerians had during the week embarked on massive protests against police brutality in the country.
