Buhari appoints Onochie, three others as INEC Commissioners, seeks Senate confirmation

NEWSMAN, Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate seeking confirmation for one of his media aides, Lauretta Onochie and three others as National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission

Onochie is to represent Delta state while Prof. Mohammed Sani is to represent Katsina, Prof. Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti) and Seidu Ahmed (Jigawa). 

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan read the executive communication during plenary on Tuesday.

Onochie is currently a Special Assistant to the President on Social Media and has been fierce in attacking critics of the Buhari administration.

The tenure of the Present INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu and five commissioners will end on November 9, 2020.

Meanwhile, Some individuals and organizations have expressed their disappointment and displeasure over the decision of President Buhari to appoint his media aide, Onochie into such a critical sector.
