Bayelsa Governor Diri defeats APC, Lyon as Supreme Court dismisses case review
NEWSMAN, Abuja – Bayelsa state Governor, Douye Diri and his deputy Lawrence Ewrujakpor on Wednesday recorded massive victory at the Supreme Court after the APC’s call for review of the apex court’s earlier judgment was dismissed.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state, David Lyon and his deputy, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo had sought a review of the judgment earlier delivered by the Supreme Court.
“There must be an end to litigation. Even if we review this judgment, every disaffected litigant will bring similar applications and the finality of Supreme Court judgments will be lost.” Justice Amina Augie who read the lead judgment said.
The Supreme Court said the application lacks merit, adding that the decisions of the court are final and cannot be reviewed.
Justice Augie said the applicants failed to point out errors, stating that the judgment is final for all ages in the ‘real sense’ and that no court on earth can review the judgment as delivered by the 5-man panel earlier led by Justice Mary Odili.
The APC’s application was dismissed with N10million naira cost awarded to be paid by Lyon’s counsel for desecration of the sacred temple of justice.
