Apocalyptic tanker fire in Lokoja leaves over 30 students, passersby dead
NEWSMAN, Lokoja – A petroleum tanker fire accident on Wednesday killed over 30 people in the busy Felele area of Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.
Most of the victims feared dead include Kogi State Polytechnic Students, some primary school pupils, interstate passengers and passersby.
Reports say the fire service officials alerted were practically unavailable for hours thereby leading to deaths of many people, some reports say over 30 persons were killed in the raging inferno.
“My heart goes out to the families thrown into this sad disaster. This is why we keep asking people to focus on good governance rather than politics”, Journalist Sumner Shagari Sambo wrote on his Facebook page.
“That Felele area is known for multiple tanker or trailer accidents yet no major expansion of it or provision of standby fire and other emergency services. Nigerians deserve better treatment from their governments indeed”, Sambo wrote.
No statement had been issued by the Kogi state government or the media team of Governor Yahaya Bello on the sad occurrence as at press time.
