2023: ‘I will not hesitate to be Nigeria’s President’- Orji Uzor Kalu
NEWSMAN, Abuja – Former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has revealed that he would serve as Nigeria’s President if given the opportunity by the electorate considering the likelihood of the emergence of a south eastern president come 2023.
“I am still in the Senate, and I will seek for re-election into the Senate, but if our people want me to serve as President I will not hesitate,” he said.
He made the remark during a visit to Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Rtd) and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) in Minna.
He maintained that there was no zoning in the APC constitution, adding “that anyone in the APC can contest for the position of the President”, News Agency of Nigeria reported.
Concerned about the security situation in the country, Kalu expressed optimism that “the National Assembly would continue to collaborate with the executive in tackling the security challenges in the country”, alleging that there was sabotage in the country’s security system.
Recall that Kalu was released from the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Kuje, Abuja, on May 8, 2020 after been accused of mismanaging funds belonging to Abia State during his reign as governor from May 1999 to May 2007.
